Our goal for the day was simple: how can we provide the greatest value to our team in just one day together?
The day began with opening remarks from our CEO, Carla McKenzie, who shared company updates and our vision for the future, ensuring everyone was aligned on where we’re heading.
We were then joined by our guest speaker, Paul Hetherington, from Vistage, the executive coaching and peer advisory organisation for business leaders. Paul delivered an engaging session on trust in the workplace. One standout exercise encouraged team members to recognise colleagues they may not work with regularly, but who had made a positive impact, highlighting the importance of appreciation and connection across the business.
Our Non-Executive Director, John Price, also shared valuable insights from his many years working in Saudi Arabia and the exciting opportunities emerging across the region.
Having a coastal office certainly has its perks. In the afternoon, the team took part in a creative challenge on the Stade Beach – the home of the last beach-based fishing fleet in the country – where we were given an area to explore and tasked with finding something we believed was worth communicating. We had to turn what we found into a 300-word narrative, using images, words, observation or whatever else we thought worked.
The results exceeded expectations, proving that creativity can be found in the most unexpected places. It was a powerful reminder to approach every project with an open mind. Because no two are ever the same.
We rounded off the day with a fantastic dinner at The Grand Pera Restaurant, giving everyone the chance to catch up with colleagues they don’t often see, or, in some cases, meet in person for the very first time.
