Hutchesons’ Grammar School, the outstanding independent school in Glasgow, has appointed a new caterer, Aramark. The aim is to transform its in-house catering operation, not only to deliver an outstanding food service to pupils at its junior and senior schools, but also to bring something different to the table.
The MYA Consulting team helped the school to define its vision for catering, and then manage the outsourcing process. The potential caterers faced a number of challenges, including scrutiny by sixteen student representatives on its food innovation and sustainability goals. With all stakeholders unanimous in the decision, the contract has been awarded to global catering operator Aramark. Aramark have a strong operational and culinary team in Scotland, Aramark inspired the leadership team with its energy and fresh thinking, and won the students over with its commitment to sustainability and to fabulous, healthy food.
The Bursar, John McColgan said, “We are looking forward to working with the Aramark team, especially with the promise of nutritional dishes created from some of the best local ingredients.” On the tender and outsourcing process, he said, “We are really pleased with the outcome. MYA were professional, creative and great fun to work with. They negotiated a solid commercial deal, and continue to manage our refurbishment programme”.
Carla McKenzie, MD of MYA Consulting, said “Congratulations to Aramark who compiled an outstanding bid. In the current, post-COVID-19 world, dining rooms in schools have never been more important as spaces to eat, meet, socialise and collaborate. I’m looking forward to seeing the ongoing transformation”.
